Arriving in Mexico

Before Landing

When coming to Mexico by air, before landing the airline stewards will give you the necessary migration documents and customs forms for you to fill out and have ready for your entrance into Mexico.
These documents can also be found in the migration area upon landing.

Familiarize yourself with the migration forms and the information you will need to provide.

After Landing

Flights originating from Europe, Asia and North America should go to MIGRATION 1, those originating from South America, Central America and the Caribbean should make their way to MIGRATION 2.

Remember that once you have passed through migration, keep your entrance document in a safe place since you will be asked for it when you leave the country.

Exemption is permission granted by the Mexican government to a person, whether national or foreigner, to not pay fees or taxes on a fixed amount of merchandise you bring into the country.

Your exemption shall be up to 300 dollars or its equivalent in national or foreign currency, in one or more articles, except regarding beer, alcoholic beverages and farmed tobacco.

Your exemption covers up to 50 dollars or its equivalent in national or foreign currency, in one or more articles, except regarding beer, alcoholic beverages, farmed tobacco and gasoline (apart from that contained in the gasoline tank of the vehicle in accordance with the manufacturer’s specifications).

In both cases, you should rely on the invoice, proof of purchase or other documents to show the commercial value of the merchandise.
These quantities can be accumulated by the father, mother and children, including minors, when arriving to national territory at the same time and in the same medium of transportation.

What you should Delcare

When you pass through customs, you have the obligation to declare:

Green Stoplight

When you have your luggage in hand and before leaving the baggage claim area, you will pass a fiscal stoplight, which will randomly and automatically indicate (without human intervention) whether or not customs officials examine your belongings.

Red light: They will examine your luggage and customs form.

Green light: You may pass through without being checked.

Regardless of the stoplight, customs authorities always have the option of requesting you to open your luggage.

Your Luggage did not Arrive

The best thing to do is to look for an information person in the area, or the security personnel, who will indicate to you where the offices of your airline are located.  Not all of the offices are in the same place.
Some airlines have special staff to take care of these situations.  When that is the case, everything is resolved much faster.

Airport Taxis

To exit the baggage claim area, you will find glass doors in front of you which will open to a corridor (generally full of people waiting for passengers).  Make your way to the right and go to the end of the corridor where you will find the taxis.  You will see the taxis (white and yellow in color) parked with people boarding them.  First you need to pay for the service at one of the ticket windows to your left.  One of these windows says SITIO 300, and the attendant will ask you where you are going and will tell you the rate you need to pay.  The cost of the service varies depending on the area of the city to which you are going.  Tariffs start at 80 pesos (about 6 euros) with the most expensive being 550 pesos (approximately 39 euros).
When you board the taxi, you need to give your voucher to the driver.  He will keep a portion of it and return the other to you.
These taxis are safe and remember, the tariff is paid at the ticket window.

Arriving by Land

If you arrive by road, carefully select the lane in which you will enter Mexico since there are two.

ITEMS TO DECLARE Lane Choose this lane when you surpass your exemptions and when bringing additional items apart from your personal luggage.

NOTHING TO DECLARE Lane

Likewise, passengers who are foreign residents entering Mexico by land vehicles or by vessel be it motorboat, yacht or sailing boat, must complete a temporary importation of their means of transportation.
